College Football Rankings, Week 7

Updated rankings through Week 7. These ranking are used in Ken Massey’s composite ratings.

Rankings are representative of on-field results only; no preseason information or future projections are used. As a result teams may move a lot week to week, especially early in the season.

Early Playoff Outlook

The champions of the Big Ten and SEC are in the best position to secure a bid. Clemson would represent the ACC if they win out, and maybe would still earn a bid with 1 loss, depending where that loss came from. The 4th spot favors Washington if they win out. If they don’t, the picture looks a bit fuzzy. Boise State or Western Michigan may factor into the discussion if they remain unbeaten, but they’ll need some help as their schedules get weaker the rest of the way. An undefeated Big XII champion would earn a bid if the PAC12 champion is not undefeated, otherwise the Big XII is out. It is possible that a conference receives two bids this year. The most likely scenario for this would be if Alabama loses close to Texas A&M then wins out, and A&M goes on to win the SEC. The Big Ten is more of a long-shot to land two bids, but if Nebraska wins out (which would include a win at Ohio State) then loses close to Ohio State in the Big Ten championship game the Huskers & Buckeyes could possibly both get in. Boise State, Western Michigan, and Houston remain in a battle for the Group of 5’s NY6 bid.
